Choose Pete’s gruelling adventure
There are few people in the world that will race across some of the darkest, coldest and most dangerous places on Earth, even if it is for a good cause.
But ultra-marathon-runner Peter Wilson is one of them, and in a continued effort to raise funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Peter has put it to the people to decide which punishing footrace he will take part in next.
By competing in some of the world’s toughest and most challenging footraces, Peter has raised over $300,000 for the Sydney Children’s Hospital. For his next challenge, Peter has handed his fate over to the public to vote on, from a list of four gruelling options to compete in this year. There’s just a week left to vote on one of these…
Canadian Death Race
It’s as terrifying as it sounds. This 125 km run through the Rockies pushes elite athletes to their limits over 24 hours. Starting on a 4200 ft plateau, the race passes over three mountain summits with an elevation change of 17000 feet. Did we mention the finish line is just beyond a major river crossing named Hell’s Gate canyon? They don’t call it a killer for nothing.
Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon
Racing over 250 km in South Africa’s Augrabie National Park, all participants must carry all their own supplies with them. Difficult, sure… but throw in a few lions stalking an unsuspecting runner and this race might be finished sooner than expected!
Leadville Trail 100
This gruelling 160 km non-stop race takes runners out and back in the midst of the Colorado Rockies. Aptly nicknamed “the race across the sky,” participants will never race below an altitude of 9200 feet. Not to mention that the majority of the race is on either forest tracks or mountain trails and the highest point is Hope Pass at 12600 ft… it’s tiring just thinking about it.
Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon
The Everest region is the home of adventure and as the world’s highest marathon, this race is like no other. It’s so high, in fact, that participants must be in Nepal three weeks prior to the race in order to acclimatize to the oxygen-poor air. It’s Everest — would you expect anything less?
