VIDEO: Melbourne in miniature
“WHILE MELBOURNE DOESN’T HAVE the obvious landmarks of Sydney, I wanted to capture the culture and people of this place.”
So says Melbourne-based photographer Nathan Kaso, who uses tilt-shift time-lapse techniques to create seemingly miniature representations of iconic Australian places.
An earlier video, Toy Boats, depicts sparkling Sydney Harbour, complete with ferries, tourists and the ever-recognisable coathanger.
For his home-town of Melbourne, the timing of the shoot was everything. “Over a 10-month period I shot time-lapse at several events – Chinese New Year, Moomba Birdman Rally and Parade, carnivals, fireworks and water skiing.”
These celebrations, says Nathan, were spliced together with shots of everyday life to showcase the unique city that is Melbourne.
