These adorable hippos were filmed on location for a new African nature series.

THIS FOOTAGE OF hippos playing in the surf was shot for a recent documentary series, Africa: Eye to Eye with the Unknown.

Narrated by David Attenborough, the BBC series showcases the diverse regions of the African continent, from the Atlas Mountains to the Cape of Good Hope, the Congo to the Atlantic Ocean.

The landscape is dramatic, the wildlife is rare, and some of the locations have been captured on film for the first time. Intimate encounters, such as that of the surfing hippos, present familiar animals doing extraordinary things, while others introduce us to unfamiliar species living against a dynamic African backdrop.
