A mother and joey enjoy a drizzly cuddle.

Congratulations to Mel Christi (from Queensland) for snapping our latest AG Reader Photo of the Week of a joey red-necked wallaby (Macropus rufogriseus) cuddling up to mum after days of rain, fur still wet from the latest downpour.

“I captured this image on a rainy afternoon after several days of heavy rain,” says Mel.

“The mother and joey are part of a mob of seven to nine wallabies. They are very skittish and highly tuned to any noises in their vicinity – which is probably how they’ve survived so well despite the abundance of cross-breed dogs [in the area].”
