For the outdoor gear fanatics dreaming of going lightweight, Nemo Equipment’s new ultra-light Tensor Elite is the answer to all your wishes.

Nemo Equipment is touting the new Tensor Elite as its lightest-ever sleeping mat and, indeed, the “lightest air pad on the market”. It’s hard to argue with that claim when the Short Mummy version weighs in at 215g (minimum weight), and the Regular Mummy size is only 240g. (An included Vortex pump sack, strap and stuff sack add 90g to each model’s packed weight.)

Yep, the Tensor Elite is tiny, but that small appearance belies the comfort and warmth it offers.

Impressively, considering those feather-weight figures, the Tensor Elite (both models) does not sacrifice user comfort, with a 76mm-thick mat for a comfy sleep, along with a three-season R-Value of 2.4, thanks to its single layer of Thermal Mirror film insulation. The other weight-saver is in the overall dimensions of each mat; the Short Mummy measures 51cm wide and 160cm long, while the Regular is 183cm long and the same width.

Even though the Short Mummy and Regular Mummy are incredibly light and compact, they still provide a comfortable night’s sleep in the outdoors, thanks to their 76mm thickness and 2.4 R-Value.

Nemo Equipment has created this lightweight wonder using a lightweight, durable 10-denier Cordura custom outer material and what it dubs “Apex Baffle Construction” which the brand claims provides sleeper stability and even distribution of your weight over the mat, while using less material to do so. Continuing this svelte them is the new Laylow Valve, a schmick low-profile adjustable valve for inflation/deflation.

The Nemo Equipment Tensor Elite Short Mummy retails for $379.95, while the Regular will set you back $399.55.

Look for our long-term test of this lightweight wonder soon.
