This 1957 film prompted AG Society-sponsored adventurer Aaron Jamieson to look more closely at the Snowy Mountains.

INSPIRED BY STORIES of early alpine pioneers, in particular this 1957 film Roof of Australia, AG Society-sponsored adventurer Aaron Jamieson embarked on a month-long camping, hiking and ski-touring expedition through the Snowy Mountains in August 2014.

The original Roof of Australia film was made by The Commonwealth Film Unit in 1957 and showcased the snow fields of the Australian Alps, which are larger than those in Switzerland. In it they look at ’50s alpine holidayers and the people that lived and above the snow line.
