Olive python down by the waterhole
Says Ryan, an ecologist working in North West Queensland:
“This image was taken in the East Leichhardt River, North West Queensland. We were undertaking some bi-annual aquatic macro invertebrate monitoring when we spotted the Olive python (liasis olivaceus). The battle scarred reptile was roughly 3 meters in length and appeared to be waiting next to the drying waterhole in hope of its next meal. It was very composed allowing me within a few inches with the wide angle lens.”
