A green ant explores the word from a new angle

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Nick Weigner for his image ‘green tree ant’.

This week’s Flickr pic was taken by Nick in far north Queensland:

“I am a wildlife photography enthusiast now based in Cairns where I am in my first year of studying zoology at James Cook University. This small green ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) was climbing upside down on the leaves of a small tree near its nest.

These ants are notable for their sour lemon taste, should one be game enough to lick its abdomen, and are an iconic species of far north Queensland,” he says.

Technical information: This photo was shot using Canon gear, one hotshoe mounted flash and a macro lens with extension tubes.
