Juvenile Victoria’s riflebirds (Ptiloris victoriae) practice their mating dance.

Congratulations to this week’s AG Flickr group member Dean Jewell, for his AG Reader Photo of the Week, ‘Practice makes perfect’.

“When I heard the raucous, rasping calls I knew Victoria’s riflebirds were advertising for females. For several years an adult male had been using this tree stump – near my home at Thornton Peak in the Daintree Rainforest – to perform its mating display. But it seemed that two juveniles had found the same perch to practice for later life.”
