See how an Australian Geographic expedition captured rarely seen footage of Bennett’s tree kangaroos

ON ASSIGNMENT IN FARnorth Queensland for Australian Geographic, photographer Bill Hatcher captured something very rare.

Bennett’s tree kangaroos are among the most elusive of Australia’s marsupials, hiding in the foliage of rainforest canopies within a very limited area of the Daintree Rainforest.

Here, Roger Martin, world expert on tree kangaroos at James Cook University in Townsville, is led by local farmers Charlie and Lewis Roberts on a mission to locate the species in treetops.
